Bridal Trousers? Let's Think Outside the Box!

Think of bridal wear…trousers don’t come to mind? Well, perhaps they should…

Once upon a time, trousers were the privilege of men, and men only. Up until the latter part of the 19th Century, in fact, the previously perceived ‘male’ garment was never seen on ladies, especially ladies of the upper class…

It wasn’t until the 20th Century that trousers became an ‘acceptable’ fashion for women. Specifically, WW1 introduced large numbers of women to their very first pair of slacks to wear in the factories.

Finally, after centuries of skirt wearing, it became fashionable for women of all classes to don a pair of trousers, and fashion designers took it upon themselves to create feminine, flattering, and stylish designs.

And all this was boosted by the influence of iconic actresses such as Katherine Hepburn, who boldly hit our screens wearing slinky slacks, inspiring women to follow the new, avant-garde trend.

But despite trousers now being firmly integrated into our feminine wardrobe, they’re generally not given a second thought when it comes to bridal wear.  But why not give them a chance?

We at Achillea Marini know how to design and make all styles of bridal wear, and integrating trousers into the look is no exception. We encourage our brides to get creative when they work with us on their design, and if trousers are what they want, then we’ll work hard to create a stunning outfit that will match their personality and style.

A traditional, fitted bodice with trousers at the bottom can be a very cutting-edge design, and really pushes the boundaries in terms of conventional bridal wear. We would use very soft and extremely feminine fabrics, like chiffon or soft shiny silk, and design simple trousers to create a balanced and harmonious look.

Our very own designer, Edith, has sketched the look

Intricate details on the bodice and around the waist would help to create a truly feminine look. Ruffles and soft, floaty materials versus the unconventional trousers would create an appealing contrast and an unusual, sophisticated and elegant design.
Here are some examples of how feminine the look can be. We think these outfits exude a sense of strength and power, without losing their femininity and grace. You’ll notice that each outfit is set off with a pair of killer heals, which are a vital addition if you want to lengthen the leg and get the full benefits of the floaty, soft fabrics of the trousers.

The beauty of custom-designed wedding dresses is that they can be anything you want them to be: short, long, sleeved, shoulderless…and, of course, with trousers. It’s about realising our brides’ vision, not about sticking to convention.
